So what is Bollywood? According to the TIME Magazine (an article by Richard Corliss entitled That Old Feeling: Bollywood Fever appearing in the June 2003 edition of the TIME magazine) the word was coined by an Indian journalist in the 70s to convey the message that Bombay (where Hindi-language films are made) was a rival of Hollywood, refers in the larger sense to Indian pop cinema - the world's most teeming film industry, an exotic, rhapsodic blend (a �bollywood masala�) of chuckles and tears, song and dance.

Thus the name Bollywood Masala aims to capture the essence of India - movies and food - not necessarily in that order! Indeed, the Bollywood theme is not pre-dominant through the restaurant, but is used as a means of subtly identifying ourselves with India in all its glorious colors. The restaurant, designed by well known interior designer Sonia Archer, has a contemporary and warm feel to it. Aside from our flavor some curries, an antique Indian door is the only obvious link to their Indian heritage. The door theme is carried through to their innovatively presented menu.
